Flight Assignments
-
NWVA flight
assignments are based on the real-world Northwest Airlines timetable, using
the aircraft types they currently fly.
-
Flight
assignments are issued by the NWVA Hub Management Team on a weekly schedule,
and additional assignments as individually requested by each pilot.
Weekly assignments are posted on the hub web site usually on Friday or
Saturday each week. In order to get an assignment on the weekly
schedule, pilots must turn in PIREPs for their outstanding assignments to
their crew chiefs in time to be processed in the crew's reports. This
cutoff may vary by crew chief, but is in all cases no later than midnight
Detroit time, Thursday night/Friday morning. If you haven't
completed and reported on your outstanding flight assignment, you have a
"Carryover".
-
Each flight
assignment may be composed of multiple legs, but a pilot may have only one
assignment outstanding at one time. Pilots must turn in PIREPs for
outstanding flights before they can request additional assignments.
-
Weekly
assignments are assigned in a random manner from length criteria determined
by the hub manager. The random assignment will be different than the
last 7 random assignments for that pilot, and only one pilot flies to that
random destination each week. Pilot aircraft preferences may be accommodated, when it fits the length criteria for each week.
-
If you have a
carryover for more than 2 weeks, you will be placed on administrative
leave, because we don't know if you plan on returning. After being
placed on admin leave, if we don't hear from you within 4 weeks you may be
dropped from NWVA.
Pilot Reports (PIREPs)
-
Pilot Reports
(PIREPs for short) should be prepared using NWVA's exclusive program,
PIREP2000, from flight data you record as you fly your assignments.
Make sure to record your departure and arrival times, and fuel on board (in
GALLONS) before startup and after shutdown.
-
PIREPs must
be submitted as file attachments (in PIREP2000 format) to email, sent to the
pilot's crew chief, with a carbon copy sent to the hub manager. Your
crew chief processes your PIREPs into NWVA's reporting system and gives you
your flight time credit. The copy that goes to the hub manager is a
back-up copy that might only be used if a question or problem comes up.
-
COMMON
MISTAKES: The crew chief processes many PIREPs each week, so it is
extremely helpful to double-check your PIREPs for accuracy before you submit
them. Common mistakes are: 1) Incorrect pilot numbers, 2) Putting
"hrs" in the flight time or units in other fields, 3) Not erasing
"CODE" from departure or arrival airport code blanks before you
fill them in, or omitting the actual airport codes, 4) Specifying fuel used
in POUNDS, when it must be specified in GALLONS (most fuel gauges show
pounds, so you may have to divide your fuel numbers by 6.6 to get gallons),
and 5) Not rounding off flight time to the nearest tenth of an hour (2.8,
not 2.75).
Leaves and
Vacations
-
If you
anticipate not being able to complete weekly assignments, please let us know
by requesting vacation or a leave of absence. When you make your
request, you need to tell us when you'll return.
-
Leaves less
than a month may be granted by the Hub Manager, while longer leaves require
approval by the NWVA Regional Manager (or higher manager.)
-
Make sure to
report in to your crew chief and the hub manager when you're ready to fly
again and need an assignment. If you don't report in by the date your
leave was granted until, you will get reminder messages.
-
If you have
not reported in after 2 weeks of you leave expiring, you will be placed on administrative
leave, because we don't know if you plan on returning. After being
placed on admin leave, if we don't hear from you within 4 weeks you may be
dropped from NWVA.
